Since you sonsabitches are always making “your mom” comments, I thought it would be nice to make a poat about our moms. Feel free to update this poat with photos and stories of your own. Or if you’re too retarded to figure out how to add content, send it to me and I’ll do it for you.
My mom was born November 7, 1921 in Detroit. In those days women did not generally go to the hospital to give birth, so my mom was born at home on Drexel Ave.
My mom attended Catholic school through eighth grade, then she enrolled in a high school that taught, among other things, how to become a seamstress. After graduating as a seamstress, she went to work in a very upscale women’s clothing store which no longer exists – Himelhoch’s – pronounced himmelhose. She worked in alterations where she remained until WWII.
While my dad was over in Italy patching B-24s that returned from missions (if they were lucky) all shot to hell, my mom went to work as a clerk at Fort Wayne Ordinance Depot in Detroit.
Here’s the photo my dad carried with him in Italy:
Here’s a photo after the war:
I think she got the date wrong. My dad wouldn’t have been back from Europe in June, and my Uncle Eddie (the dashing mop jockey) was stationed in the Pacific. I doubt he got home until late summer or early fall. He married the other woman in the photo, my Aunt Hermina, who was my mom’s best girlfriend. Not sure why my other Uncle Ed has his arms around her. Maybe she was like Carin’s daughter Erin, just playing the field. Anyway, they all look pretty happy that it was over.
After the war my mom and my dad started raising a family. My brother was born in ’46, I was born in ’49, and my sister was born in ’50. When my sister entered third grade, my mom went to work for the USPS as a letter carrier. Her route was the downtown business section in the town where we lived. It was a walking route, so she was pretty strong and in shape. Christmases were always a last minute thing because she worked long hours from Thanksgiving to December 24, usually working until 5 on Christmas Eve. She retired in 1978, and had a very active retirement traveling all over the fucking place visiting family and my dad’s old Army Air Corps buddies. Or as Obama would say Air Corpse. The whiney assholes hadn’t yet conned the War Dept. into forming the entirely useless and redundant Air Force.
Here’s a beach photo before she started making babies:
I love this pic:
Anyway, I just wanted to prove to you that my mom was a babe, because I didn’t expect you to take my word for it.
Roamy’s Babe of a Mom:
That pic of my mom is from her sister’s wedding. Mom was already married and had brother #1. She was mostly a stay-at-home mom; when she did work, she was a secretary, receptionist, and dept. store clerk. In my decluttering, I found another envelope full of cancelled stamps she saved for my collection. She was kind and an exceptional peacekeeper in the family. I miss her every day.
Feel free to update with Babe pics of your mom.
In case you don’t have any, I can help you out:
Jay’s Babe of a Mom
Mom of Jay in Ames, who is not in Ames, but is still in Iowa, but not Ames. Plus other members (all of them) of the family, 2 brothers, mom, dad, and the star of the show:
Mare’s Babe of a Mom
My Mom as a civilian had a top secret security level and worked in (I think) Pasadena for the DoD. Codes and whatnot.
Mom was fun, had a wonderful sense of humor, was a great cook and fiercely loyal. Also a lifelong conservative…HUZZAH!
MJ’s Babe of a Mom + Dad
She’s the best. My mom and dad were high school sweethearts from a small, blue collar town. Dad joined the Navy, got married, went to college and grad school all while having 4 kids.
50+years later they’ve been all over the civilized world and are still happy.
xbradtc’s Babe of a Mom
Pogo, circa 1950
Pogo graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in PE.
She worked at Ft. Bragg, NC running a service club.
Later she worked for Remington Rand as an efficiency expert.
She met and married my dad in the mid 50s and was a stay at home mom. Lived in KS, Sicily, Virginia, Boston, FL, DC and WA before moving to CA.
Chi’s Babe of a Mom
Mom is a beautiful, lively (almost) 80. She plays meek, but is stronger than most men I know.
Forced to raise 4 kids alone when Dad was killed, she picked up the pieces & went out to work for the first time since highschool.
Buried 2 husband’s, came >< this close to burying her first son, buried her first grandson at eleven months old…
Stronger than me by far.
Never lost her faith or sense of humor. I obviously love her immensely.
Here she is with Dad’s 58 Plymouth Fury, The Happy Wanderer, looking like a model.

“My mom was 3rd of 12. She admired her Aunt Libby. Aunt Libby went to nursing school in Santa Fe. Joined the Navy. Married an Anglo. My mom went to nursing school in Santa Fe. Joined the Navy. Married an Anglo.”
Mamacita’s standing right behind me. I’m the really cute kid next to the two losers to the left.
